Matthew is a graduate student in the Harvard department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. He is interested, broadly, in the link between literary form and politics. His current research focuses on the practice and imaginary of science in the early Soviet Union. His additional interests include socialist realism, utopianism in Russian thought, readership, 20th century Czech literature, and the grotesque. Matthew received his B.A. in Slavic Language and Literatures from Columbia University in 2013. His undergraduate honors thesis explored the link between Russian Modernism and foundational works of Socialist Realism.
