Reception for Romance and Reality Poster Exhibit

Thursday, September 28, 2017 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Poster of V. I. Lenin

Harvard Ed Portal (224 Western Ave. Allston, MA 02134)

The Davis Center and the Harvard Ed Portal are proud to present the latest Crossings Gallery exhibition Romance and Reality: Posters from the Russian Revolution. When the October Revolution overturned the longstanding Russian Empire 100 years ago, posters were particularly useful for getting messages and ideas across to a largely illiterate population. This exhibition explores the hope and passion of the Soviet Union’s early years, as well as the tensions inherent to building a new nation.

Join us for a reception featuring a presentation by Terry Martin, George F. Baker III Professor of Russian Studies at Harvard University and former Director of the Davis Center. Professor Martin will provide brief remarks on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, looking back at the history of the revolution itself and what that history means 100 years later.
