It’s standard at graduations to remind the students of how much we have taught them. Of how much they’ve learned in our classes, or from their peers, or in the library.
But in doing so, we overlook something even more important—how much they have taught us. Every student in our program leaves behind a legacy at the Davis Center. And not just of the brilliant papers they wrote or the amazing Ignite talks they gave. I want to thank each of our graduating students for making me a little bit wiser (and of course, more than a little wistful that you are leaving).
Thank you to all of you for your hard work, for what you have taught us, and for your readiness to throw yourselves—heart, head, and soul—into the study of Russia and Eurasia. You are ready to take the world by storm, and we can't wait to see what you do next.
