Lieutenant Colonel Juha Kukkola, D.Mil.Sci., M.A., is an associate professor in the Russia Study and Research Group at the Finnish National Defence University (FNDU). He has served in the Finnish Defence Forces since 2008 as a platoon leader, staff officer, lecturer, and research officer. He received his doctorate from the FNDU in 2020 and completed the General Staff Officer Course in 2022. His research interests include the Russian art of warfare — particularly indirect and asymmetric action and deception — as well as Russian military adaptation and future force development. His most recent publications concern the Leningrad Military District and the military commissariat system.
