Peter Rutland is the Colin and Nancy Professor for Global Issues and Democratic Thought in the Government Department at Wesleyan University, where he has taught since 1989. He is also vice president of the Association for the Study of Nationalities. He works on nationalism and the political economy of contemporary Russia. Recent articles include "The contradictions in Putin’s economic nationalism" Russian Politics (2023); “Thirty years of nation-building in the post-Soviet states," Nationalities Papers (2023); and "Are the sanctions working?" PONARS (2024).
