Xenia Benivolski is a Canadian Ph.D. researcher and FWO fellow working between sound studies, material culture, and visual art at KU Leuven in Brussels. Her research explores the material and ideological lives of musical compositions and instruments as agents of political, spiritual, and territorial transformation. Her Ph.D. work focuses on the figure of the bell in Russian culture. Broader interests include the ontological status of instruments and monumental forms, and the acoustics of memory and violence.
