We share these opportunities purely for information. Our list does not mean we support the organizations offering them, and we cannot promise that our community members will have any special advantage when applying. The KIU Research Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies supports innovative and significant research on topics related to Ukraine. Researchers from various disciplines and career stages (2+ years after completing doctorate) are welcome to apply. The residential research fellowship at European University Viadrina provides a monthly stipend of up to 2300 € plus a one-time travel allowance of up to 600 €. Fellows are offered a workplace in the co-working office of the KIU in Frankfurt (Oder). The fellowship will start on April, 15th 2026 and last until July 15th, 2026. The non-residential research fellowship provides a monthly stipend of 450 €  for a period of up to 9 months for committed scientists from all the above-mentioned disciplines who stay in Ukraine for various reasons. The fellowship will start in April 2026 and last until December 2026.

German Association for East European Studies (DGO) — Germany

The German Association for East European Studies, in collaboration with Freie Universität Berlin (FU) and the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), invites submissions for CEECON 2026, to be held in Berlin on October 8-9, 2026. CEECON is the largest multidisciplinary congress on Central and Eastern Europe in the German-speaking region. The 2026 conference will bring together different disciplinary perspectives (ex. history, sociology, political science, political economy, geography, anthropology, literary and cultural studies) to reflect on historical and contemporary uncertainties, certainties, and interactions between the two. In particular, the conference will highlight work on the Baltic States, Central and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.

The Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia invites faculty and scholars from selected European and Eurasian countries* to apply for its professional development fellowships. Fellowships support short-term research visits (ranging from 6 weeks up to 3 months) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and include round-trip airfare, housing, health insurance, and a stipend.

Milena Jesenská Visiting Fellowship offers journalists from across Europe (including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey) time off from their professional duties to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice for three consecutive months at the IWM in Vienna. Fellowships will take place between September 2026-June 2027. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend (EUR 3,300) in addition to office space, access to research facilities, and administrative services.

The Lesia Ukraїnka Fellowship is open to scholars in all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Selected candidates will spend three consecutive months pursuing their research projects at the IWM in Vienna between September 2026-June 2027. In addition to a monthly stipend, visiting fellows will be provided with office space, access to research facilities, and administrative services free of charge. Preference will be given to candidates currently based in Ukraine.

The Paul Celan Fellowship for Translators supports translations of canonical texts and key contemporary works in the humanities, social sciences, and cultural sciences from an Eastern to a Western European language, a Western to an Eastern European language, or between two Eastern European languages. The NEC's Mattei Dogan Fellowship is offered to early-career scholars in the social sciences from CEE (Central and Eastern European) or Black Sea countries (see posting for full list). Applicants should be affiliated with an academic institution in one of those countries at the time of application. Successful applicants will spend one or two semesters working on a project of their choice as resident fellows in Bucharest.

The Trust Fellowship Programme aims to examine the factors that contribute to the erosion of trust in science in the digital age. Open to both Romanian and international scholars in the humanities and social sciences, the programme invites research into the cultural, historical, ethical and symbolic dimensions of digital misinformation. The NEC's Sustaining Ukrainian Scholarship targets qualified postdoctoral-level researchers in the humanities and social sciences (including law and economics). Recipients will have the opportunity to pursue a project of their choice as resident fellows in either Bucharest or Sofia. Fellowships are available for either a full academic year (beginning October 2026) or one term (beginning March 2027) and include a tax-free monthly allowance, accommodation in the Bucharest/Sofia, reimbursement of travel costs, access to NEC's library/electronic resources, and a lump sum that can be used for conference travel or a research visit at an institution of the fellow's choice.

The programme provides funding for:
1) a research project or continuing academic training at a state or state-recognised university in Germany or a non-university research institute, which is being carried out in agreement with a supervisor in Germany or

2) a self-organized internship in a company or a non-university institution in the field of GH2 in Germany.

Duration of the funding is between 1 and 18 months for research fellowships and 2 to 3 months for internships.

AuSpire is a postdoctoral training program for talented researchers of any age, nationality, culture, gender, and sexual orientation co-funded by the European Union as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). The fellowship offers a full-time employment contract in Spain for a period of 36 months, stipends for relocation and related travel, and access to an international, multidisciplinary network of researchers from leading industries, research centers, and universities.
