Imperiia Studio: Session IV
Have you ever wondered what you could do with a historical map (other than hang it on your wall)? Over four sessions we will work with a beautiful, highly detailed plan of Odesa/Odessa published in 1894. We will study the map’s structure and content and go through the process of pulling it apart (and putting it back together again). This will be a light introduction to spatial thinking and GIS skills. You will come away knowing more about late imperial Odessa than you ever thought possible, and with a decent sense of the work involved in treating maps as data. The ability to read Russian will come in handy and you will need to bring a laptop, but otherwise there are no requirements. Because we will be working together, participants must commit to attending all four sessions (October 16 and 23 and November 6 and 13). You are welcome to sign up in pairs – so long as one of you attends all will be well.
Please note this is the fourth session. To attend this session, you must have attended sessions I, II, and III.
