Pipe Dreams: A Celebration of the Life and Work of Maya Peterson

Event Format
Online

Please join us as we come together to celebrate the life and work of Maya K. Peterson, who died tragically in June 2021. Maya was Associate Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an alumna of Harvard (REECA A.M. ’05; Ph.D. ’11). Her work has changed the way we understand the intersections of knowledge and power, empire and environment, in Central Asia. Our speakers will reflect on the many ways in which Maya’s book, Pipe Dreams: Water and Empire in Central Asia's Aral Sea Basin (Cambridge University Press, 2019), will shape the field for generations to come, and on the ways in which Maya left a mark on the hearts and minds of historians around the world.
