Aynur Abish is an associate professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Translation at KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where she has worked since 2025. She previously served as an associate professor and head of department at Minzu University of China in Beijing. Her research interests include Kazakh and comparative Turkic linguistics, modality and evidentiality, information structure, language documentation, and corpus-based approaches to language study. Dr. Abish is the author of Modality in Kazakh as Spoken in China (Harrassowitz, 2016) and has published in journals including Turkic Languages and the Journal of Endangered Languages. Her recent work includes “Specificity and Accusative Case Marking in Kazakh” (2026), co-authored with Juldyz Smagulova. She also participates in research projects on Kazakhstan’s manuscript heritage and the development of digital resources for Kazakh. Dr. Abish received her B.A. and M.A. in Kazakh language and literature from Minzu University of China and her Ph.D. in Turkic languages from Uppsala University, Sweden.
