David Darchiashvili is a professor at Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia, where he teaches courses on national and regional security. In 2002-2003 he was a Fulbright Fellow at Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C. He is the author of several books and articles, including “Georgia: The Search for the State Security,” Caucasus Working Papers, CISAC, Stanford University, 1997; “Civil-Military Relations in a Newly Independent Transitional State: The Georgian Case,” in Albrecht Schnabel and Hans-Georg Ehraht (eds.), Security Sector Reform and Post-Conflict Peace-Building, UN University Press, 2005; and “Soviet Path Dependency as an Impediment of the Democratization in Georgia,”  Modernization in Georgia, Interdisciplinary Studies #18, Peter Lang, Bern, 2018. In 2008-2012, as a parliamentary deputy, Darchiashvili headed the Georgian parliamentary committee on European integration. He is a graduate of Tbilisi State University.
