Gregory Carleton is a Professor of Russian Studies in the Department. of International Literary and Cultural Studies at Tufts University. He is the author most recently of his third book, Russia: the Story of War (Harvard UP, 2017), and has just completed a manuscript on the Crimean War as the first modern quagmire through the lens of Lev Tolstoy and William Howard Russell.
