Hilary Lynd is a historian of the Soviet Union and South Africa. She is interested in comparative and transnational histories of ethnicity, nation, and race—how ideologies give meaning to human variation, how ideas about difference move across borders and continents, how states categorize their populations, how human beings live inside the categories they have been assigned, and how organizations transform regimes of difference. Hilary has published articles in Slavic Review and the South African Historical Journal, and her work has received awards from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies and the Southern African Historical Society.
