Ivan Goma is a political scientist. He received a Ph.D. in 2012 at the Joint Franco-Ukrainian Ph.D. Program at the University of Paris X-Nanterre and the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Later, Dr. Gomza was a German fellow at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2013, a fellow at the Fulbright Faculty Development Program in 2016-2017, a Petrach fellow at George Washington University in 2022, and a Petro Jacyk Non-Resident Scholar at University of Toronto in 2023.
Dr. Gomza’s scholarly interests comprise warfare, democratization, authoritarian regimes, nationalism, and contentious politics. His most recent book, The Republic of Decadent Days: Ideology of French Integral Nationalism in the Third Republic, Kyiv: Krytyka, 2021, was long-listed for the Ukrainian PEN-club award. He also published multiple articles on the Russo-Ukrainian war, nationalism, authoritarian politics, and social movements. Dr. Gomza sits on editorial boards at Communist and Post-Communist Studies journal, Ukrainian Analytical Digest (Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen), and the book series Ukrainian Voices at ibidem-Verlag (Stuttgart). In addition, he teaches six academic courses at Kyiv School of Economics, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
