Joldon Kutmanaliev is a researcher at Leuphana University, Germany. He received his PhD in political and social sciences from the European University Institute in Florence in 2017 and MA in political science from the Central European University in Budapest in 2009. His research interests include political violence, ethnic conflicts, and post-Soviet politics, along with data analytics and software development in social sciences and education. He is the author of Intercommunal Warfare and Ethnic Peacemaking: The Dynamics of Urban Violence in Central Asia (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2023), which won the Joseph Rothchild Award in nationalism and ethnic studies (2024) and the Best Book in Social Sciences Award (2024) from the Central Eurasian Studies Society. He has taught for many years at Bishkek Humanities University and the University of Tübingen in Germany.
