Professor Lawrence N. Langer is Associate Professor Emeritus with the University of Connecticut, where he was the Director of the Center for Slavic and East European Studies from 1986-1992.He received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago in 1972, with his dissertation focusing on the Russian Medieval Town.
Professor Langer has been the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Russian History since 2009. He is currently working on a manuscript, titled Rus' and the Mongols: Society and Economy in Appanage Rus', Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries. Most recently, his article “The Rus Principalities” was featured in The Cambridge History of the Mongol Empire, 2 vols., I: 753-76, eds. Michal Biran and Hodong Kim (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2023).
