Lucy Minicozzi-Wheeland is an American graduate student at Harvard University, where she is earning her master’s degree in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia (REECA). Lucy spent the 2019-2020 academic year serving as a Fulbright Student Researcher in Odesa, Ukraine, where she worked with several prominent Ukrainian NGOs and universities, including the Odesa Center for Nonproliferation and Ukraine Crisis Media Center. During her time at Harvard, she has worked for The Kyiv Independent and the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, while writing her thesis about the war in Ukraine.
Lucy studied Russian intensively during the summer of 2022 while completing a Critical Language Scholarship in Tbilisi, Georgia. In September, she will continue her virtual internship at The Kyiv Independent with the support of an Association for Slavic, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies Graduate Internship Grant. In December, she will return to Tbilisi to complete a Boren Fellowship. There, she will intensively study Russian, Ukrainian, and Georgian, work on her master’s thesis, and conduct research on Georgian politics.
