Thomas Schaffner is a second-year graduate student in the REECA program and an innovation fellow at the Imperiia Project. Thomas graduated from American University in 2019 with a degree in international studies and a minor in Russian. His undergraduate research focused on language and nationality policies in the Soviet Union, and the role of historical memory in contemporary Eastern European politics. His current research interests include the Cold War, Soviet art and culture, and memory politics in the former Soviet Union.
