Xenia Cherkaev is interested in the possibility of a collectivist modern life. Her work focuses on the fringes of property law and on Russian illiberal politics: on collectivism, networks of mutual aid, and on animals as legal subjects and objects. She is the author of Gleaning for Communism: The Soviet Socialist Household in Theory and Practice (Cornell 2023).
