Curriculum-Writing Fellowship: The Holocaust in Southeastern Europe

Explore the overlooked history of the Holocaust in Croatia through a free online curriculum-writing fellowship for K-14.

The Davis Center, in collaboration with the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Research in Southeast Europe (CHGRSE) at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, is pleased to offer a curriculum-writing fellowship for K-14 educators focused on the Holocaust in Croatia. Taking place during the 2025-2026 academic year, this free fellowship will consist of a six-part webinar series that explores the historical, cultural, and regional complexities of the Holocaust in this often-overlooked part of Europe. By focusing on the World War II-era Independent State of Croatia, participants will gain novel insight into the broader history of the Holocaust, in both the surrounding region of southeastern Europe and the European continent at large.

Participants will receive access to expert-led sessions and curated educational resources — delivered through CHGRSE’s digital tool, "Mapping the Holocaust in Croatia" — to support the development of a unit plan tailored to their classroom needs. Fellows who complete the unit plan will receive 20 PDPs and will have the opportunity to feature their work on websites of both the Davis Center and the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Research in Southeast Europe. This program offers a unique opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of Holocaust history while creating a meaningful, globally informed curriculum for their students.
