A collaboration between the Program on Georgian Studies and Somerville Arts Council, this initiative has been breaking boundaries and bridging worlds since its inception. The Exchanging Notes program is where art, culture, and creativity collide, forging deep connections between Georgian and American artists.

This year, the Program on Georgian Studies is keeping the spirit of cross-cultural exchange alive by hosting Artist-in-Residence Mishiko Sulakauri. In partnership with the Somerville Arts Council, we will unveil a mural at Warehouse XI, celebrating Somerville’s rich history and the profound connections forged through art. Warehouse XI is an event space in Somerville that embodies the essence of community and artistic exchange in Somerville.

Through two cohorts in 2023 and 2024, Exchanging Notes has transformed artistic dialogue into a vibrant exchange of ideas, traditions, and innovation. In the 2023 cohort, Somerville artists journeyed to Georgia, where they collaborated with their Georgian counterparts, culminating in a breathtaking performance that wove together their artistic traditions. In 2024, a new cohort carried the momentum forward, presenting a stunning showcase that fused Georgian dance with contemporary American styles and explored the universal language of rhythm across cultures. Exchanging Notes is a testament to the power of artistic collaboration, proving that creativity knows no boundaries.

Through paint, movement, and music, Exchanging Notes continues to inspire, proving that when cultures come together, magic happens.

Food and refreshments will be served.
