Tedo Japaridze and Gabriel Chubinidze discuss Georgia’s changing generational values and their impact on almost thirty-five years of Georgian independence. Is the deep political polarization in Georgia today generational? In what ways do evaluations of the Georgian revolutions of the last three and a half decades differ among Georgia’s youth and the country’s older generations? To what degree do the legacies of protest, conflict, and power continue to impact public debate today? This webinar brings together Ambassador Tedo Japaridze, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and National Security Advisor to President Eduard Shevardnadze with Gabriel Chubinidze, graduate student, historian and political commentator, for a conversation on the disruptive political patterns apparent in Georgian politics since independence, and what this means for Georgia’s leaders and citizenry today. Can democratic citizenship survive in a time of such moral and institutional fatigue? Is there a new generation waiting in the wings? Can it shape politics differently?
The webinar will conclude with a moderated Q&A session inviting reflections on the future of political life in Georgia.
