Last spring, the Davis Center, the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard (HURI), and the Kyiv School of Economics began collaboration on an online series, "Kyiv Connection: Disciplinary Dialogues on Ukraine." The series features compelling and contemporary conversations across various disciplines, all from a Ukrainian perspective. Each session highlights a Ukrainian scholar in dialogue with an international counterpart, offering diverse viewpoints and rich insights.
The second talk this semester — "The Lessons of Ukraine Resilience" — will feature Elena Davlikanova, a senior fellow with the Center for European Policy Analysis (DC) and Sahaidachnyi Security Center (Kyiv), and Yevhen Malik, a former Marine Infantry sergeant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a veteran of the Ukraine War. Together, they will explore what the war in Ukraine has meant for the future of defense.
Russia’s recent and repeated violations of Polish and Estonian airspace have made it clear that there is much Ukraine can teach Europe about suppressing drone attacks. Ukraine’s experience with modern warfare is relevant in a number of ways—from military combat to civilian preparedness. Ukraine is now in a position to help Europe prepare for conflict with Russia. Join us for a discussion that will highlight the military lessons Ukraine learned in 2022, how they are relevant for Europe today, as well as how Ukraine analyzes the Russian threat in the future, and how this understanding can inform European defense preparations.
