What is it?

An introduction to spatial thinking and producing spatial data. We will learn to build gazetteers, extract data from maps, and express relationships among places. The focus of our work will be an incredible 19th century map of mineral resources in the Donets region. Each session will consist of two hours of guided instruction followed by an hour for applying the workflows we discuss. Participants are not required to attend third hour - you are free to choose a more convenient hour of the day to chip away at tasks like vectorization and research.

Who can apply?

This workshop is open to anyone working on a historical topic regardless of status, discipline, academic institution, or time zone. Ability to read a Slavic language will come in handy, as the map we will study is in Russian. Graduate students are warmly encouraged to apply. "Seats" are limited and the studio will take place on Zoom.

Cost: $25, payable after registration confirmation. (Note: The workshop is free for Harvard students.)
