It isn't easy to find chocolate in the archives. Then again, it wasn't easy to find chocolate in the Russian Empire, where access to sweets was closely linked to social status. Our latest project uses the geography of confectioners and chocolatiers to study industrialization in the late imperial period. Join us to learn about the factories, their owners, the sweets they produced, and the art of mapping historical statistics.
