How is Uzbekistan navigating economic liberalization and the green transition as China’s role in its industrial development expands? The talk examines the forces shaping this transformation, focusing on automotive production, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. It frames Uzbekistan’s economic doctrine as a form of postcolonial liberalism: an effort to overcome North–South hierarchies by reshaping, rather than rejecting, liberal globalization. It considers how partnerships with China and other Global South economies fit this vision, amid growing protectionist and illiberal currents in the West.
