Anar Valiyev

Dr. Anar Valiyev is an associate professor at ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan. Dr. Valiyev received his MA (2001) and BA (1999) in History from Baku State University. From 2001 to 2003, he studied public policy at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received his second Master’s degree. In 2007, he successfully defended his dissertation at the School of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. In 2016-2017 he was Fulbright Scholar at Johns Hopkins University, and in 2020 he was awarded Jean Monnet Chair title. Dr. Valiyev is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles published in journals Communist and Post-Communist Studies; Problems of Post Communism; Demokratisatsiya; Eurasian Geography and Economics;  Cultural Geographies; Cities; Urban Geography and many others. His areas of expertise are public policy of post-Soviet republics, democracy, and governance.
