Arsen Enverovich Simkhayev, a student in the Davis Center's REECA Program, examines the cultural, social, political, legal, and environmental histories spanning the Ottoman Empire, the Middle East, Muscovy, imperial Russia, the Soviet Union, and the post-Soviet world. His research interests include immigration policy, ethnic minority identity formation and experiences, population displacement and resettlement, cultural survival and preservation, and the shaping of historical memory and state narratives. He is particularly interested in how these themes intersect in the experiences of Crimean Tatars and other ethnic Tatar communities.
