Daur Nachkebia (b. 1960, Ochamchire, Abkhazia) is an Abkhazian writer renowned for his contributions to literature in both the endangered Abkhazian language and Russian. He graduated with a degree in physics from Tbilisi State University in 1982. His acclaimed novel, The Shore of Night, delves into themes of memory, identity, and the human cost of conflict, particularly reflecting on the Abkhaz-Georgian war. This work has been translated into multiple languages, including Georgian, Armenian, Croatian, Serbian, Spanish, German, Italian, and Dutch. 
 
Nachkebia has been honored with Abkhazia’s highest literary accolade, the Dmitry Gulia State Award for Literature, Art, and Architecture, for The Shore of Night. He is also a recipient of the Fazil Iskander International Literary Award, recognizing his significant impact on contemporary literature. 
 
In addition to his novel, Nachkebia has authored a collection of short stories titled The Tree and a book of essays, Face to Face, showcasing his literary versatility and commitment to exploring the human condition. Beyond his writing, Nachkebia serves as the Director of the Association of Publishing Houses in Abkhazia, promoting Abkhazian literature and culture. He currently resides in Sukhumi, where he continues to write and advocate for the preservation of his native language and heritage.
