Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania; Bernard and Susan Liautaud Visiting Fellow, Stanford University, California

Gabrielius Landsbergis served as Lithuania’s minister of foreign affairs from 2020 to 2024 and is currently a Bernard and Susan Liautaud Visiting Fellow at Stanford University (2025-2026). Born under Soviet occupation, he witnessed Lithuania’s fight for independence, led by his grandfather Vytautas Landsbergis.

He began his career as a diplomat before entering politics, winning a seat in the European Parliament, and becoming chair of the Homeland Union. In the Lithuanian parliament, he served two terms, leading to his appointment as minister of foreign affairs. During his tenure, he positioned Lithuania as a global advocate for freedom, strongly supporting Ukraine, expanding ties in the Indo-Pacific, and backing democratic movements in Moldova, Georgia, and Taiwan.

Known for his bold statements, he gained international recognition through media appearances (CNN, HardTalk, Bloomberg) and speeches in Brussels and the U.S. Since leaving politics in 2024, he continues to challenge authoritarianism, preparing publications for 2025 and engaging with global audiences via social media and his website, landsbergis.com.
