Laura S. H. Holgate is an American diplomat who served as the United States ambassador to the United Nations International Organizations in Vienna and to the International Atomic Energy Agency from 2022 to 2025 and previously from 2016 to 2017. Her career has included serving as special coordinator for cooperative threat reduction at the Department of Defense, directing the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fissile Materials Disposition, and serving as a founding vice president of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, leading its Russia/New Independent States programs. She was a special assistant to the president and senior director for Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism and Threat Reduction on the National Security Council, where she oversaw and coordinated the development of national policies to reduce global threats from nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. She is currently the president of LSHH International Advisors and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the World Institute of Nuclear Security, and the Leadership Council for Women in National Security. She has non-resident appointments at the Columbia University Center for Global Energy Policy and Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
