Dr. Maria Petrova is the Director of Programs at Georgetown University. She believes that solving today's complex climate and energy challenges requires engaging multiple economic sectors and stakeholders, empowering communities, supporting innovation, and educating people about the power of individual action and collaboration. Petrova has led numerous high-caliber, innovative projects and teams, leveraging her expertise in both managerial and academic-industry partnerships. Her research and teaching emphasize sustainability within higher education, energy policy, and climate issues. She has an extensive publication record on public perceptions of renewable energy in the US and Europe. The title of her most recent research is “Mitigating adverse community responses toward wind turbine installations by understanding common public concerns.” Petrova's academic background includes a B.A. in Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria, a Master’s in Marketing from the University of Sheffield, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Oregon State University. Outside of her professional work, Petrova enjoys hiking, gardening, and spending time by the ocean with her family.
