Michael Stanislawski is Nathan J. Miller Professor of Jewish History at Columbia and the director emeritus of the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies. He received his BA, MA, and PhD from Harvard University. In 1979-1980 he served as an assistant professor of history and comparative religion at the University of Washington. He then came to Columbia in 1980. He has authored seven books and dozens of academic articles on Jewish History, Zionism, Russian History, and European Intellectual History. Most pertinent to this talk is "Autobiographical Jews: Essays in Jewish Self-Fashioning" published by University of Washington Press in 2004.
