Stephen Kotkin is the Kleinheinz Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and the founding director of the Hoover History Lab. He is also the Birkelund Professor of History and International Affairs Emeritus at Princeton, where he taught for 33 years, directed the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, and served as vice dean of the Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs. His current book project is Stalin: Totalitarian Superpower, 1941-1990s.
