W.J. Hummel is the Head of Legal Affairs of the Ukraine Refugee Reception Center in Berlin. Over a million refugees from Ukraine and partly from Russia have been registered and provided with food, shelter, and medical services since the beginning of the Ukraine war in February 2022. In over 30 years, Mr. Hummel was involved in dozens of German-Russian and German-Ukrainian projects. As a German business delegation member in 2008, he could meet then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and, in 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin. 2014 Mr. Hummel took part in the IMF mission in Kiyv. Financial aid given afterward enabled the Ukrainian Government to avoid bankruptcy. The last time Mr. Hummel visited Moscow was in August 2022. Apart from his work, until today, he has almost daily social media contact with both sides of the war.
