Yelena Severina is working on her first monograph, which focuses on the history and development of tableaux vivants from their early appearances in the Russian Empire in 1795 to the present. She hopes to bring together in a single narrative a phenomenon that has been studied only in bits and pieces, if at all, and to write the history of this practice, tracing its origins and subsequent evolution, correlating the latter with historical and cultural events. She received her Ph.D. in Slavic languages and literatures from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2018. In 2022-2023, she was a visiting assistant professor of Russian studies at Hamilton College.

Yelena has been a visiting scholar with the Davis Center for academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
