The Davis Center, in partnership with the Lviv Center for Urban History, is looking for teachers to participate in a new curriculum development project, "On Ukraine."

The Project

The Lviv Center for Urban History has developed Reesources: Rethinking Eastern Europe, a rich digital educational platform of English-language historical materials translated from Ukrainian, Polish, Yiddish, Russian, and German. The platform strives to broaden the range of primary source materials accessible to educators, to question entrenched overarching narratives, and to innovate new methods for teaching and learning about Eastern Europe in a wide variety of classrooms. The materials cover a large number of themes, including displacement and migration, gender, and war.

The "On Ukraine" Curriculum Development Project will allow a select group of educators to work collaboratively to develop curricula that draw on the materials published on the Reesources platform.

Timeline and Logistics

Participating educators will attend three virtual sessions throughout spring 2024 during which they will:

  • Become familiar with the materials on the Reesources platform
  • Determine which resources they would like to build curriculum around, and
  • Build teaching materials in consultation with each other and regional experts.

The final unit/curriculum will be piloted and shared at an in-person workshop on Harvard’s Cambridge campus in November 2024.

  • Project Application Deadline: March 15, 2024

  • Applicant Notification: March 22, 2024

  • First virtual meeting: Early April 2024

  • Second virtual meeting: Early May 2024

  • Third virtual meeting: Early June 2024

  • In-person workshop: Mid-November 2024

Eligibility

Middle, high school, or community college educators, living and working in the U.S. and teaching any discipline, are welcome to apply. Participants must be available to attend all three virtual meetings in March, April, and May 2024 and one in-person workshop in Cambridge, MA, in November 2024.

Participants who attend all four sessions and develop a curricular resource for piloting at the in-person workshop will be provided with a $500 honorarium upon successful completion of the program.
