Dr. Gerard Libaridian will talk about his new book, A Precarious Armenia: The Third Republic, the Karabakh Conflict, and Genocide Politics (Gomidas Institute Books, 2023). The book contains previously published and unpublished material that focuses on the challenges faced by the Armenian Third Republic in the 1990s and 2000s. Libaridian challenges the dominant sense of victimhood, urging Armenians to move beyond illusions and legends to the world of hard realism and pragmatism.  The talk will address the current conflict with Azerbaijan and reflect on the changing relationships with Russia, Turkey, and Iran, Armenia’s powerful neighbors. Dr. Beka Kobakhidze of Ilia State University, now a fellow at the Davis Center, will respond to Dr. Libaridian’s remarks.
