The Caspian Sea currently sits at the nexus of several critical geopolitical and environmental debates. In particular, the Caspian is the linchpin of the emerging Middle Corridor for trans-Eurasian trade that has received intense attention since the invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, its ecological health and future existence due to climate change are increasingly in question. The successful development of the Middle Corridor will require unprecedented coordination of infrastructure investments and freight logistics by the littoral states of the Caspian. A similar level of coordinated action is required to manage Caspian’s myriad environmental challenges and energy opportunities effectively. This panel is assembled to explore strategies by which these interrelated challenges could be collectively addressed.
