Dan Epstein ran the center's Scholars Without Borders initiative (2023-2026) as its assistant director and lectured in government at Harvard University, where he received both his B.A. in Slavic languages and literatures and his Ph.D. in government.
After finishing his Ph.D. in 2008, Dan completed a postdoc at the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester, where he taught courses on democracy and Russian politics. He moved to Russia in 2010 as a Fulbright scholar and visiting professor at Bryansk State University. Dan has also taught political science at Colgate University, Texas Tech, and MIT.
He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Party Politics and REGION: Regional Studies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, and worked as a field organizer for Bernie Sanders's 2016 presidential campaign.
