Dr. Magsud Mammadov is a Research Associate at the Centre for Contemporary Central Asia and the Caucasus (CCCAC) at the University of London, specializing in geopolitics, energy policy, and international relations. Dr. Mammadov holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas State University and a Master’s degree in Energy Policy and International Political Economy from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his Ph.D. in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, with a dissertation titled "(State) Selfie at International Politics: Ontological Insecurity, Roles and Nation Branding in the Post-Soviet Space, 2008–2018." In 2024, Dr. Mammadov was an AsiaGlobal Fellow at the Asia Global Institute, University of Hong Kong, where he researched China's Belt and Road Initiative and green diplomacy along the Silk Road, focusing on the South Caucasus and Central Asia. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Mammadov has over 15 years of professional experience in government, multilateral, and non-governmental organizations. He has held key roles in major international energy projects, such as the Southern Gas Corridor, and has served in leadership positions within R&D and innovation centers at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic.
