We share these opportunities purely for information. Our list does not mean we support the organizations offering them, and we cannot promise that our community members will have any special advantage when applying. The German Association for East European Studies, in collaboration with Freie Universität Berlin (FU) and the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), invites submissions for CEECON 2026, to be held in Berlin on October 8-9, 2026. CEECON is the largest multidisciplinary congress on Central and Eastern Europe in the German-speaking region. The 2026 conference will bring together different disciplinary perspectives (ex. history, sociology, political science, political economy, geography, anthropology, literary and cultural studies) to reflect on historical and contemporary uncertainties, certainties, and interactions between the two. In particular, the conference will highlight work on the Baltic States, Central and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. 

 

 

DAAD Ukraine — Germany

Additional Details

The programme provides funding for a research stay at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany, which is being carried out in coordination with a scientific host/supervisor in Germany. Project proposals from all academic disciplines are eligible for funding. Funding is provided for one month to a maximum of six months.

Columbia University invites applications for a one-semester, open-rank position during the 2026-2027 academic year (fall or spring). Appointments may be filled at any level from Visiting Assistant to Visiting Full Professor. The professorship commemorates Professor Deák’s legacy of excellence in research and teaching and is open to scholars with an active interest and accomplishments in East and Central European studies. Review of applications begins January 15, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are intended to support 12 months of full-time research and writing in residence that will make use of our collections. Fellows will participate in Beckman Center scholarly programs, including the Works in Progress writing group and Fellows’ Talks lecture series. Postdoctoral Fellowship stipends are $50,000, paid in monthly installments, with an annual $1,000 stipend for travel and professional development and an additional available reimbursement of up to $2,500 for health insurance.

Tomas Bata University in in Zlín — Czech Republic

NEC Fellowships are open to postdoctoral scholars in all areas of the humanities and social sciences. Fellowships are available for either a full academic year (beginning October 2026) or one term (beginning March 2027) and include a tax-free monthly allowance, accommodation in Bucharest, reimbursement of travel costs, access to NEC's library/electronic resources, and a lump sum that can be used for conference travel or a research visit at an institution of the fellow's choice.

Scholarship for doctoral study for highly qualified PhD students with a commitment to social causes. If the doctoral programme is carried out at a German university, citizenship does not matter. In justified cases, doctorates abroad can also be funded; this presupposes that the doctoral candidate has German citizenship or a university entrance qualification acquired in Germany. Funding can be granted for 3 years.

Established in 2025, ASEEES Next Generation Dissertation Research Fellowships provide up to $28,000 for doctoral students at US universities, regardless of citizenship, to conduct dissertation research in Slavic, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies for a period of at least nine months. Most research should take place in Eastern Europe/Eurasia, but the fellowship can be used to conduct research for a brief period in a secondary location (such as the U.S.).

 

Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel — Germany

The Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, an independent research institute for European cultural history, is offering postdoctoral fellowships for a period of 6-10 months for scholars to analyze source material from the library's holdings and advance their research. 4 to 6 fellowships will be awarded annually. 

Monthly fellowship amount is €2200 euros, with a one-time reimbursement for the cost of travel to and from Wolfenbüttel, for a maximum of €2000 euros. The fellowship period begins January 1, 2027.
