Maps We Made

The latest interactive dataset from our Imperiia Project helps preserve the history of Ukraine’s fragile natural world and clearly calls for new strategies of mapping the past, expanding beyond the documentation left by those in power.

In 1865 the ministry's Central Statistical Committee published a lengthy report on over 66,000 fires documented over a five-year period (1860-1864). We mapped it.

Churches, mosques, and synagogues probably spring to mind, but a holy place could just as easily take the form of a burial site or freshwater spring.
