Alexander Langstaff works on the transnational history of modern Europe, including the Habsburg empire and its post-imperial successor states as well as France, Germany and Britain. His research currently focuses on the political, cultural and intellectual stakes of the human sciences and the idea of participatory citizenship. His PhD dissertation (New York University) traces the postwar emergence of opinion surveying. He is a residential research fellow at the École Normale Supérieure-Ulm in Paris. Alex has been a key contributor to the curriculum project On Ukraine, organized jointly by the Davis Center and the Lviv Center for Urban History.
