Address
CGIS South Building, Room S216 and Room S354, 1730 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA

This workshop is the first in a series of three workshops planned for this academic year that will introduce participating educators to new sources on Eurasian history and new skills to explore those resources in the classroom.

Join us November 21, 2024 for a day-long workshop designed specifically for educators. We will delve into the complex environmental and social consequences of war through the lens of modern Ukraine: destruction, environmental repercussions, and the need for reconstructing in order to resurrect the affected nature, urban spaces, and cultural heritage of a place. Hosted in collaboration with the Lviv Center for Urban History, this workshop aims to inform and enrich your teaching toolkit. Participants will meet and hear presentations from several leading experts in the field, as well as engage in hands-on lesson planning activities utilizing available resources.

This workshop, open to the public, is the final part of our ongoing Curriculum Development Project with the Lviv Center for Urban History, using Reesources, an innovative new digital educational platform of Ukrainian, Polish, Yiddish, Russian, and German historical materials translated into English. Participating educators will learn about the valuable set of resources available online from the Lviv Center, hear from experts about the war in Ukraine and its effects on the landscapes and built environment of the country, witness presentations by K-14 educators on how they have used materials from the Lviv Center to build lesson plans and units, and have the opportunity to build  new class activities or lessons in dialog with academics and fellow educators.

This workshop is the final part of our ongoing Curriculum Writing Project: On Ukraine. There is a $25 registration fee. Checks can be made out to the President and Fellows of Harvard College and mailed ahead of time to the address below or brought to the workshop. Ten PDPs will be awarded to all participants.
