Andrew Watkins is a senior expert with the U.S. Institute of Peace. He was previously the International Crisis Group’s senior analyst for Afghanistan and has worked across the country for the United Nations, a number of humanitarian organizations, and the US government. He has written extensively about the Taliban and conflict dynamics in Afghanistan, and on wider regional politics and diplomacy.
