Join us for the first session of the Davis Center’s three-part webinar series, "Strategies that Work: Inclusive Literacy Instruction in the Social Studies Classroom," designed for K–14 educators. Each 90-minute session explores practical, research-based approaches to support literacy development while creating engaging, inclusive social studies instruction. Throughout the series, participants will engage deeply with the topic of the Holodomor (man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine), using relevant historical resources to demonstrate and practice a variety of literacy strategies in an authentic context. Webinar 1: Making it Stick - Teaching for Retention in the Social Studies Classroom focuses on helping students retain essential content and build meaningful background knowledge. In this session, participants will explore evidence-based strategies proven to support long-term learning and strengthen reading comprehension in the social studies classroom.

Other webinars in this series are:

Webinar 2: Unlocking Complex Text - Practical and Inclusive Reading Strategies

Webinar 3: Making Writing Manageable - Scaffolding Techniques for the Social Studies Classroom
