Alexander Abashkin is a Russian higher education professional who has been involved in developing and sustaining Russian-American academic ties for the past 30 years. In 1993, he joined Stanford University and co-founded the Moscow campus of Bing Overseas Studies, where he served for many years as the program’s deputy director and, later, director. Alexander then served as the head of the Center for International Projects at the Russian Academy of National Economy, where he developed cooperative relationships with foreign universities and organizations. For the past 10 years Alexander oversaw international projects at the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences. Thanks to Alexander's efforts, hundreds of young Americans have had the opportunity to visit Russia, learn Russian, get to know Russian culture and people. He left Russia in early March 2022 and has been working with the Davis Center on the Scholars Without Borders initiative.
