Emily Hackett completed her master’s in Regional Studies—Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia through the Davis Center’s REECA program in 2025. Emily’s research focuses on cultural diplomacy in interwar East-Central Europe, with a focus on Czechoslovakia. Her REECA master’s thesis, “The Pen as Their Sword: Ukrainian Emigre Students in Czechoslovakia, 1920-1925,” explored the educational and cultural work of Ukrainian students in interwar Czechoslovakia, as they continued to advocate for a future independent Ukraine.

After graduating, Emily went on to pursue a Ph.D in history at the University of Chicago.
