Julian Gonzales-Poirier is a second-year MA in Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies at the Davis Center. His current work focuses on Russian-Turkish-Iranian relations and the influence of territorial losses on foreign policies of these countries. He is currently the Innovation Fellow for the Program on Georgian Studies, a position for which he conducts research on Georgian-Turkish relations and the Abkhazian diaspora’s impact on them. Outside of the classroom, he conducts open-source research for the U.S. Army’s Foreign Military Studies Office on Russian and Chinese military influence in Eurasia. Before coming to the Davis Center, Julian graduated from Middlebury College with a BA in Russian in 2023. He has interned at the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism. In his free time, Julian enjoys baseball, American football, and Frank Herbert’s Dune.
